Community Events

We have performed at over 170 regional and local events, some including participatory workshops that invite audiences to join in and play instruments.

Our performances span festivals, open-air theatres, parades, carnivals, sports events, fairs and charity events, as well as private hire.

We have also received funding both locally and from the Arts Council to run various community projects.

Community Project: The Queen's Samba (2022)

Video of the Queen’s Samba Project 2022

Live audio recording of Queen’s Samba in full

This was a fully funded community project where the goal was to create an innovative new piece of music and performance to celebrate the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, blending traditional Samba sources with rhythmic elements from various countries where the late Queen was or had been Head of State.

We worked with core community groups and managers on the Jackmans Estate in Letchworth to foster future shared strategic objectives. Through workshops, GCS members helped shape the “Queen’s Samba”, with the key anticipated impact being the formation of a new cultural network on the Estate.
